What Should GEE Movie Club Cover in May?

For our fifth go-around of GEE Movie Club, we thought we'd let you decide what we should watch and discuss. This will work like how Drew & Glen Talk About Anything does: put any and all suggestions you have in the comments here, and toward the end of the month, we'll up a poll where you can vote. The winner will be May's movie.

And if you're reading this and you're like, "Wait, what is GEE Movie Club?", know that it's just the Patreon-exclusive series available monthly for folks pledging at least $5 a month. So if you're not seeing these in your feed, it's probably because you're supporting us at the $1 or $3 level.

We do reserve power of veto, I should say, but at the very least I'll try and come up with a good-sounding reason why we won't do one movie or another. And... go!

The Outsiders. Super gay!

I dunno if you guys would do a movie musical, but You Can’t Stop the Music (aka The Village People movie) is so highly gay camp, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

Just now learning the title is "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" not 'wanna'

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - my gay awakening

Girls Just Want to Have Fun because it stars a young Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt, and Shannon Doherty, three actresses whose careers went in different directions, and because it’s SO EIGHTIES, and because it’s a delightful romp. Also in my headcannon SJP’s military dad is closeted.

The Kathy and Mo Show: Parallel Lives. This is a feature-length recording of Kathy Najimy and Mo Gaffney’s 1991 off-Broadway pro-feminist, pro-queer comedy skit show that launched both their careers. Really funny + interesting time capsule of the politics/culture of the time. Not really a *movie* movie tho I guess.

Also, Drop Dead Fred (I like movies with 'dead' in the title). I think Phoebe Cates' journey in that movie is very much the gay experience of struggling against your family and your upbringing to find your own identity.

I would love to hear your take on Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. The way I identified with Sue Ellen Crandell was very formative to my gay identity.
