3rd Rock from the Sun Goes to a Gay Bar

“World’s Greatest Dick” (November 10, 1996)

Sally Solomon is a straight, cis character, but for the first two seasons of the 3rd Rock from the Sun, there was this queer or trans aura around her. This episode dispels it, for the most part, and allows the writers to craft storylines and jokes that are no longer different versions of the “man trapped in a woman’s body” trope. Drew and Glen disagree on exactly what the gay man trying to date her thinks is going on with Sally, but for all that could go wrong with this kind of plot, it’s not that bad. The ending sucks, sure, but we point out how it could have played out better.

There is actually a relationship between salmagundi, a dish that is basically charcuterie posing as a salad, and Solomon Grundy, the Superman villain.

There are only two bits of She TV on YouTube today: this one and this one.

I definitely remember She TV, but have no idea how to watch it today. I also remember 3rd Rock doing a body swap episode (Two-Faced Dick, s4e10), that had some trans vibes if you’re ever looking at revisiting the show down the road.

Thank you. It is weirdly one thing I know how to do with audio to make that specific effect. It's the outro theme to My Sister Sam, BTW.

I’ve been meaning to say, I really love the outro music. It has this music from another room sound to it that reminds me of falling asleep to the sound of my parents watching tv.

Barry Maher-Caras

Oh yeah. I forgot that — and we actually covered that episode.

For GEE purposes, wouldn't JGL's most important role be setting our hearts a'flutter when he kissed Topher Grace on That 70s Show?

Turner Arrington

The “same thing happened to me?!” joke is one of my all time favorite. cracks me up every time.
