Peggy Hill Had Sex With a Gay Guy

“Luann Virgin 2.0” (March 11, 2001)

We’re very happy to return to Arlen, Texas, to discuss a King of the Hill episode that has a small gay subplot — Peggy technically lost her virginity before she met Hank to a friend who needed to figure out if he was gay. However, in having that thread introduce a discussion of what’s reason enough for good, red-blooded heterosexual Christians to get married, this episode actually (accidentally?) also makes a good argument in favor of the reasons same-sex couples wanted to get married. Wayne Trotter, we wish we’d met you.

This episode begins with a discussion of the Screenrant article that argued why Peggy Hill is a bad mom. You don’t need to read the piece to understand what we’re talking about, but if you really feel like you must there it is.

Comments

This was such a great episode, it makes me want to put King of the Hill into my sitcom rewatch feed (I did a lot of Frasier in 2020 and Bob's Burgers last year)

Danielle

Oh and the in the butt thing is real. Fucking mean hypocritical girls I went to high school with.

Margaret Wu

This was such a good episode, folks! I really like your take on Peggy and Hank. Excellent criticism.

Re: swing revival: Dead Like Me premiered in 2001 and the first episode had a huge sequence set to "Hell" by Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Is Lucy Ricardo a Peggy Hill?

Paperweight Gay is a phrase that we totally need to make happen.

Claire Marinello

Hahaha

Drew Mackie

Oh yeah. Also a chaos engine. Peggy is like Lucy minus the ability to perceive her failures

Pausing this episode during the discussion of the abstinence dance to relay a joke that was popular at my church: Why don’t Baptists allow premarital sex? It might lead to dancing.

Erin Fletcher

What about Peggy as a descendant of Lucy? Independent, confident, can go really big

Lea Susan Engle

I mean, I went to the one meeting and then did drugs.

I TOO am a raised Catholic person who experimented with born-again Christianity in college. It did not go well. I wish I had just experimented with drugs like everyone else, but at least I know a lot of trivia about theology and have actual reasons I can articulate for rejecting every form of Christianity and not just one type.
