It’s fitting that we’re ending the Shelley Longcast on one of her biggest box office successes but also a movie that doesn’t get the respect it deserves. For whatever reason — misogyny, Bette Midler, cable TV trends, sentiment about Shelley Long herself — Outrageous Fortune doesn’t get ranked alongside the great buddy comedies of the 1980s, but it should be.
We’ve had a lot of fun talking about someone who deserves more credit for her impact on Hollywood, and at the very least we hope we’ve shoved a lot of trivia into your head.
