Peter Griffin Becomes a Gay
Added 2021-06-19 06:40:21 +0000 UTC“Family Gay” (March 8, 2009)
Is it anticlimactic to say that this episode of Family Guy is not as terrible as you might expect? It concerns Peter being injected with the gay gene and becoming temporarily gay, and for all the Seth MacFarlane of it all, this one gets some stuff right, landfs some decent jokes, biffs some bad ones and sometimes sacrifices laughs altogether to shock, horrify or offend. In short, it’s typical Family Guy.

Huh. I guess I feel better knowing it was real. I guess?

2021-06-21 19:58:12 +0000 UTCOh how interesting. But even though I know that's a trend, especially in genre shows, I guess I'm more surprised to see it on Family Guy, just because it's not something I can recall any other animated sitcoms having a problem with.

2021-06-21 19:35:45 +0000 UTCDrew, you didn't make up that Family Guy ep. Quagmire's sister was in a physically abusive relationship and Peter and the gang did kill him. It was....an episode. Much like this episode you dissected, there were some solid points but also many insensitive jokes. But, that is the basis of Family Guy I suppose.

2021-06-21 15:05:12 +0000 UTCGood episode, guys. I'm so glad to get your take on this one since I once brought it up as an episode that I found distasteful-- though I think that about almost all of "Family Guy" after they brought it back, despite being an immense fan of the show since it's premiere after the Super Bowl in 1999. The show, for me, went from boundary-pushing and funny to crass and unfunny, and the lack of the same level of funny is what killed it in my eyes. I know I'm 15 years late for this, but in order to bolster my pathetic knowledge of more contemporary sitcoms, I started streaming "30 Rock" this weekend. I'm in love with the show; I only question how long it sustains that level since I've only just bitten into the first season. I did see the episode titled "Blind Date" which is the third episode of the first season. I'd be wondering about your take on that-- a very different type of humor than "Family Gay."

2021-06-21 12:40:02 +0000 UTCI haven’t watched Til Death so I can’t say if it’s worth seeking out, but apparently it became very meta towards the end with one of the characters realizing that he is in a sitcom and his wife keeps getting recast, which sounds like a fun turn for a bland sitcom https://www.avclub.com/nobodys-watching-the-strange-genius-of-the-fourth-seas-1798220591
