2025-03-29 15:02:00 +0000 UTCI can't unsee Anson Mount as Captain Pike in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" and it somehow impacts how I view Captain Pike in TOS. It would have been blasphemous to say in previous eras of Trek but now.... yeah..... I see what you're saying 😂. He's "that guy" in the Federation. Hell... his hair alone is a diplomatic asset.

I've heard they also didn't think people would accept a show with a female second-in-command ("Number One", the black haired woman), and even that they thought Spock's pointy ears and eyebrows looked Satanic! They still thought the show had promise, though, so they commissioned a second pilot ("Where No Man Has Gone Before") with more action, which was accepted by the network. Gene Roddenberry still liked the original pilot, though, so he found a way to work it into this two-parter. The original unedited version of the first pilot was eventually released on VHS and DVD. Fun fact, the Talosians were all played by female actors, but made up to look like men and dubbed over with male voices. This made them seem more otherworldly. Next episode: Captain Kirk's backstory!
