Dan Savage has talked about, after a certain age, you become invisible in bars. And he liked it, of course, because he doesn't like being in bars. And while dads and older gentlemen might be getting more noticed these days, it's 1) too niche, and 2) younger people aren't likely to approach even if they are interested. Between not knowing how to pick people up at bars without using an app, to the perceived power differential, or not wanting to seem rude, or whatever, it just isn't as likely to happen for older guys. And I'm here to tell you, Amp, I'm one to two years older than you, you aren't old yet. 38 to 40 at least used to be where you'd start to see a decline in interest (not invisible, though), but people of our generation are starting to look younger and younger compared to people who were 40 even 10 years ago. If that last sentence made any sense. In aggregate, people aren't aging as quickly, as far as looks are concerned, as they used to. So, who knows, maybe we'll be considered young enough until we hit 50 or something.

I don't get rep in the media, I don't get flirted with, dating is ridiculous. I definitely don't get the first or second interest at sex parties, maybe third, usually fourth, and then I'm expected to be an experienced MILF that does anyone and anything in a way I haven't experienced in my 20s.
