Bonus! Comparing Young Frankenstein vs Old Frankenstein

Hello there! I wanted to get the bonus video out a few days early this week so you can join us for a very special two-day livestream on Twitch this weekend. This Saturday and Sunday, we'll be watching scenes from Young Frankenstein and comparing them to the screenplay -- looking at what was on the page versus what made it into the film. That's at noon pacific, Saturday and Sunday, at https://twitch.tv/mattbaume.

And on the topic of Young Frankenstein: That Mel Brooks film draws more inspiration than you might realize from the old 1931 Frankenstein and its sequels -- and in some ways, I think Young Frankenstein might actually improve on those older movies. But not in every way! For this week's bonus video, we'll go behind the scenes on the Frankensteinses, and look at how the 70s film recaptured the magic of those 1930s classics.

Bonus! Comparing Young Frankenstein vs Old Frankenstein

Comments

I saw a revival screening of 'Young Frankenstein' recently and the film was preceded one of my favourite shorts 'The Critic' which has Mel Brooks provide the voiceover as an confused elderly theatre patron trying to make sense of abstract animation. It couldn't be a more perfect match for a film in which Mel is also heard but not seen!

Showing my age, I remember when they re-released "Young Frankenstein" in theaters when I was a teenager. And there was an actual radio ad for the movie narrated by Mel Brooks. At one point in the ad, he says, "And this is what the crickets had to say about the movie!", followed by the chirping of crickets. The joke being that he meant "critics". Never failed to make me laugh.
