Bonus! Andy Warhol's Frankenstein is not what it claims to be

The film Andy Warhol's Frankenstein is not actually, as the name might suggest, the work of Andy Warhol. (Aside from one visit to the set and his attendance at an after party.) So how did his name wind up on this weird piece of ... let's be polite and call it "art"? And is the star of the film, Joe Dallesandro, really the "first overtly sexualized male in the movies" as many around him claimed? All that and more in this week's bonus video!

And join us today for a livestream of The Old Dark House, one of my favorite movies and one of the funniest horror films ever made. We go live at noon pacific/3pm eastern at http://twitch.tv/mattbaume

And there's lots more livestreams coming up:

Ah what a loss! Time for a film festival. We can skip Ace Ventura.

Oops sorry I missed this message earlier! Twitch only keeps them up for two weeks, I believe.

Just read that we lost Udo "Fuck Life in the Galbladder" Kier today (Nov 23rd) at the age of 81. What an absolute legend and gay icon this man was. As I mention below, if someone wants to honor his legacy after reading this, a great film to watch is the last (and one of the few) leading man roles he ever did, and that was in 2021's Swan Song (which is now an even more apt title).

Man, I wish I knew you streamed old movies! I would have loved to see the Gods and Monsters one. I plan to go back and watch the VODs you still have up there, how long do you keep them on Twitch?

It is very much the kind of film we would have happily rented when I was in high school!

Kees him! Kees him again! VHY IS ZIS NOT VERKING?!? Not an exact quote but Flesh For Frankenstein was why cult movie rentals used to be a whole business model.

I got a couple more Evelina quotes I think you might like! Here's the heroine talking about someone she just met: "Mrs Selwyn is very kind and attentive to me. She is extremely clever; her understanding, indeed, may be called masculine; but, unfortunately, her manners deserve the same epithet; for, in studying to acquire the knowledge of the other sex, she has lost all the softness of her own." Oh these masculine women and feminine men! And Mrs Selwyn herself later says of the heroine's love interest, "There must have been some mistake in the birth of that young man; he was, undoubtedly, destined for the last [ie, the previous] age; for he is really polite!" Which shows that the "young people today have no manners" complaint is also an eternal one.
