Sewers of Paris: Thirst Trap Daddies (Ep 533 - Star Trek/David)

My guest on The Sewers of Paris this week is David Duffield, who simultaneously lives in the past, the present, and the future. David’s work as a historian excavates queer histories that had previously been withheld from public view. It’s a project that gives those of us alive today a connection to the lives of people who came before us. And it’s inspired, in part, by David’s connection to values he picked up from his love of science fiction.

Smart guy! Thanks to folks like David, and you too Matt, who keep the history alive. Especially in these times! When I first graduated college in the mid 70's, my straight roommate and I would unwind at the end of the evening by getting stoned and watching reruns of Star Trek and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. My roommate, who had a rich fantasy life and participated in Civil War and WWII re-enactments on the weekend, wanted to be Captain Kirk. He also wanted to be Errol Flynn in Robin Hood and Captain Blood! He really was a man's man and I think he would have been happier if he had been gay. He just loved the company of men, but needed his release with the women. He confessed he was bad at the relationship part and always said he wished he could keep his relationships in the lust/infatuation stage, because it was downhill after that. The poor guy died in a motorcycle accident when he was 30!
