Bonus video! Julia Child's kitchen goofs (and creative saves)

Hello there!

For my most recent YouTube video, I did some research into the early days of PBS (and its predecessor, NET), and came across a lot of fun Julia Child stuff that I didn't have room for in the final video. But I thought you'd get a kick out of a couple of clips in which she screws things up, and because it's live TV (or live-to-tape) has to come up with a hasty save. The first is from a very early episode of The French Chef, in which she has some inspiring words for any kitchen novice ("if you're alone in the kitchen, who's going to see?") and also an appearance on Letterman in which a dead burner turns a hamburger into a gourmet (????) meal. Plus, the time Julia scared the shit out of Dick Cavett.

Here are some places where you can watch the stuff I talk about in this video:

You know, the more I've looked into this one, the more I think it's one of those urban-myth type stories that everyone swears happened to someone they know!

I've heard a similar story to the turkey one, but it was cutting the ends off a roast because they didn't have a pan big enough.

Oh, speaking of flubs that happened on TFC! In the Cold Turkey Galantine episode, Julia pulled out a pair of weights and a board to show people how to evenly flatten out chicken breasts. Needless to say, it's not the most stable fixture: https://youtu.be/YF2xmd348Kk&t=581
