Bonus Video! Who was the closeted actor that Armistead cursed out while filming Tales of the City?

At issue: Writer Armistead Maupin was FURIOUS that the actor in Tales of the City was pretending to be straight. But who was the actor??? It's a mystery, but perhaps some of you will have a theory or two.
Plus! I have some fun footage from the defund-PBS days in the mid-90s, with some clever wordplay involving the Muppets.

Oh hmmm it wouldn't surprise me if it was part of that mid-90s fuss! A bunch of states yanked funding around that time.

2024-10-15 04:50:12 +0000 UTCIt would be curious to know when O-E-P-B-S lost its state funding (but still receives significant CPB funding as far as I know). In Idaho, this was more a fervor over programs like "It's Elementary" in 1999 and later the state Republican party did not fully remove state funding for the network, but did force a rotating disclaimer to air on the stations, which started in or around the year 2000 (since discontinued, blessedly) https://www.lmtribune.com/northwest/warning-labels4c75f133/
