I've been digging deeper into the life & career of Ms. Liza Minnelli and I've found some truly delightsome interviews that she gave around 1972. That includes a few details about her research into Cabaret, which apparently led her to a Hamburg orgy/lesbian mud wrestling??? Imagine getting all dressed up for a nice night of lesbian mud-wrestling and then you spot Liza Minnelli across the room.
Plus! I've got some interesting clues about the roles that Liza might've turned down from Walt Disney. Thanks to TBoneSF for providing some context about Walt's (failed) Oz plans!
(Also, I'm trying a new thing with the editing of these bonus videos -- basically doing some technical workflow tweaks so I can upload them at a higher resolution. Let me know if you like that better/worse/don't care! I don't know if these really need to be in 4K!)

2024-05-20 05:17:20 +0000 UTCThe person who introduced me to Cabaret told me on an occasion that Liza was so good in Cabaret because she was more or less portraying herself. That’s probably an exaggeration, but I could never buy Christopher Isherwood’s criticism of her in the role. (And if I were Jean Ross, I would much rather be portrayed by Liza than Jill Haworth). And during the video I kept thinking about Judy Garland’s appearance on What’s My Line, which is incredible for so many reasons. But she was in the city because she was there for Liza’s marriage to Peter Allen.
