August Q&A! Superpup, the Muppets talk Puppets, and Delta Burke's Gay Husband

Hello there!

Time once again for the monthly Q&A/feedback video, available for free to all Patreon members! I'm responding to questions, comments, and clips that you've sent me -- and this month, it's almost all clips. Fascinating ones! We'll start with one more BONKERS failed pilot, this time featuring Superman ... with one minor change. Then we've got a brief flash of sexy-gay time on a show where Delta Burke plays a lady (briefly) married to a football homosexual. Then a bunch of Muppet stuff (which is my favorite kind of stuff) and a little Rita Hayworth story before hopping over to the discovery of a new "what a dump" delivery. Plus a song by Judy Garland's husband (one of the straight ones, as far as I know).

If you want to check out all of the stuff I mentioned in this video, here are some links:

For more TV talk, join me every Sunday at noon pacific for a livestream where we hang out and discuss our favorite weird television history! That's at twitch.tv/mattbaume

Thanks again for being a part of this Patreon, for sending me clips and comments and questions, and for all your excellent suggestions for future topics!

Yes to queer horror! That would be pretty fab. Wasn’t a horror fan until my husband coaxed me into liking it, and now it’s a staple in my media diet. :-)

Horror for you to check out: Hellbent, Sacrament (2015 by me), Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror, Creatures from the Pink Lagoon, Bite Marks, Curse of the Queerwolf, Fright Night is incredibly queer, Dracula's Daughter....I could literally talk about queer horror for hours.

Oh wow this is amazing, thank you so much!!!

Oh I haven't done anything about Cop Rock but I will definitely add it to my list of stuff to look into!

Yay for Happy Death Day shoutout

Knights Who Say Sledge

Yay for upcoming horror content, btw.

Knights Who Say Sledge

Bringing up Melora Hardin, as you may likely know, she plays the singer in the dinner club in the movie The Rocketeer and has two songs on the soundtrack as a result (her version of Begin the Beguine from the film/soundtrack is my favorite version of that Cole Porter classic to date). https://youtu.be/bosLXZ_LdI0 Switching topics, you mentioned doing something on musical episodes of TV in a recent video... have you done much on Cop Rock?!? It's just such an epic of bad idea television (I own it on DVD cuz I love trash). I'm sure you're familiar with the show, but if your TV research brilliance turned up anything on the infamous dud, that'd be thrilling.

Knights Who Say Sledge

If you do anything on Rita Hayworth, you will surely watch "Gilda" as part of that. You should watch it regardless. The gay subtext in it is barely sub.

Regarding gay horror stuff, you should include something about Christopher Landon, who did the Happy Death Day movies and Freaky, which I absolutely love, and also We Have a Ghost, which was ok. Also, I watched a movie called Summoning Sylvia, which featured Frankie Grande and mostly gay characters, which was fine, not great. Hi Matt, A bit off topic maybe: in the French movie 8 Femmes (8 Women) by director François Ozon, Fanny Ardant pays homage to Rita Hayworth with this song and dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kxh296wPtHg (original scene from Gilda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnBmbsDan5s). By the way, another sidenote: In the movie Fanny Ardant and Catherine Deneuve share a lesbian kiss, I remember seeing it the first time twenty odd years ago and still feel the butterflies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWKxHJn6dMI

Matt! You're quite welcome, and glad you liked 1st and Ten! Ty Taylor (superhunk who I think is also from RI like me) ended up being a regular character on the show through multiple seasons. He occasionally had a line or two during the show's run.

Jason Pagano

This is one of my go-to, end-of-a-long-day movies. It flows so easily from scene to scene and is zany as f*ck. Yes, the band is great and multi-talented, switching from Ballroom to Marachi to Polka to Hillbilly band when the revolving stage goes haywire. (Plus, the guy who eats the bus with his girlfriend is a friend of mine. He told me once that most of that scene is adlibbed.)

A less well known movie I’m fond of is “Radioland Murders” which has a couple scenes of a Spike Jones-esque band that plays between acts (and murders). Maybe not for everyone but I love the zany antics & the nods to Frankie and a few other famous people from the 30s. Also *spoilers* TV does factor into the plot.
