Hi hello!
Welp, here we are, just one day away from Pride month, and you know what that means: Only 30 shopping days left until Wrath month. (Related: It's also time to start taking stock of which corporations switch their logos to rainbows just days after firing their entire queer social media team.)
But! Also! It's time for parades, rallies, forums, protests, picnics, zaps, and everything from very cute outfits to palpable outrage. I've got a bunch of great stuff planned for June, starting with a video about Modern Family's surprising place in the marriage equality movement -- it's a show that didn't just reflect changing American attitudes, but it also had a direct impact on legal rights by stealthily sneaking some very progressive messages in front of mainstream audiences.
Keep your eyes peeled for that video (if all goes according to plan, and when doesn't it?) to go live on Sunday, June 12.
Also this month: Bonus videos upon bonus videos for Patrons at the $2+ level! I've been digging up some great research connected to Modern Family and Schitt's Creek, including a ridiculous story involving a preacher who found himself in quite a pickle due to some careless Google-image-searching. (Also, check out my recent bonus videos about Popeye & Bluto, about a very naughty joke that Debbie Reynolds told the producers of Will & Grace, and an incredibly weird bondage-themed cooking show segment on SCTV.
And! I'm working on some fun Sewers of Paris episodes, including a chat with the guy responsible for the Swedish version of Drag Race. While you wait for that, give a listen to my recent interview with the FASCINATING Joan Jett Blakk about how she snuck onto the floor of the Democratic National Convention in 1992, in full drag, to announce her plans to run for president against Bill Clinton.
All that plus fun bits and bobs in my (nearly) weekly newsletter, including stories about queer pop culture history, my comic book reviews, snippets of queer cartoon/video game history, and links to cute animal videos. I'm also planning to do a book giveaway for newsletter subscribers this month (I'm not doing this on Patreon because of tricky rules about raffles), so now's a good time to get on that mailing list.
Whewwwww, I think that's everything for June. Thanks as always for making all this stuff possible -- I couldn't do any of it without your support -- and for all the neat clips and articles and whatnot that you send me for upcoming videos. See you at Fleckman's!
Matt
