Bonus video! Golden Girls Creator Susan Harris vs the Networks

Hello, forest creatures. Welcome to another bonus video!

This week I've got a bunch of fun stories to share: Before he was the first recurring gay character on a successful US sitcom, Billy Crystal was an obscure standup comic hanging out with Billie Holiday and getting shot at (!) while on stage. Before she put Billy Crystal on TV, Susan Harris was the creator of Fay, a show that was cancelled quite controversially. And before the show Dynasty made it to air, writers was told there was one gay-related phrase they were never allowed to use, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

So thrilled you’re digging in to Soap. Looking forward to the video

Worth noting that Susan Harris appeared in a couple early episodes of Soap as a jailed prostitute named Babette. Someone who worked on the show said that she hated the experience and swore she'd never do it again.

Looking forward to your Soap video. It was an amazing show for its time though bits are certainly a problematic, especially today. Regarding Susan Harris' previous work, she also wrote three episodes of All in the Family and four episodes of Maude, including the iconic two-parter where Bea Arthur's character gets pregnant late in life and toils over whether to have an abortion or not. Brilliant writing on episodes that networks would never allow 50 years later.
