Sewers of Paris: The Drama Kid (Ep 359 - Funny Girl/David Pevsner)
Added 2021-10-29 16:01:03 +0000 UTCMy guest this week is David Pevsner, writer, actor, and erotic blogger. His book Damn Shame, a memoir of desire, defiance, and show tunes comes out in January (it’s available for pre-order now) and catalogs his adventures on Broadway and on TV, as an escort, and as a naked Tumblr star. It all starts with a kid dancing in secret to Barbra Streisand records.
And if you haven't already, check out my YouTube channel where I post videos about queer pop culture history — I’ve got a new one coming this weekend about how Elvira became a gay icon and the Queen of Halloween.

Your guests love of babs really touched me. I see Babs in a whole different light.

Like at that time or even in musical theater history. Her voice wasn't like anything they'd seen in a show let alone acted and danced. So to know there was a time that a Broadway regular bought tickets to a new show with a new singer. And they either loved it or hated. Bc she was a phenomena! I appreciate babs especially as a feminist. But I had fully not appreciated how much of a hero and role model she has been too many.. Especially queer men.despite whether or not you appreciate her style of singing
