If WW2 lasts longer it ends with a nuclear blast over Berlin, in my opinion

What are all the models, figurines, munitions, and other tchotchkes on the shelves behind you? (All the ones that aren't AFVs at least, those are a *lot* of AFV models, and the video can only be so long.)

There have been quite a few odd and interesting tanks in the past that have had features that have been proven to be evolutionary dead ends or otherwise too unconventional to be used any more, such as tanks with all-around sloping or multi-turreted vehicles. Can you think of any armament, loadout or other such feature that existed for some tanks (prototype or not) in the past that could still hold some merit if it would've been researched and refined further? (Hypothetical examples: Maybe the way the S-tanks were built could've been the future of tanks, or maybe the "cult of the machine gun" was correct after all and everything should bristle with .50cals pointing at all directions?)

Preferred caliber, 308 or 556? For a rifle, not mounted guns, mr tanker. =) Cause at that point, just go big or go home if its mounted to the roof of a tank.

What are your thoughts of the M8 AGS seemingly coming back from the dead for trials?

I would also like to learn more about the active defense systems on tanks. I remember being limited to pop smoke and reverse - which was only effective against long range shots by first and second generation missiles and you happened to be looking in the right direction. I am particularly interested in operator requirements of the active systems - how does the TC/crew manage them?. What are there limitations in terms of what they protect against (shaped charge rounds etc..), what is the minimum range/reaction time, can they be overwhelmed or spoofed easily, are the effective in urban close-up combat? A tank crew that can roll into an engagement with confidence - or stay cool when being ambushed - can do a lot of damage.

Had the Second World War lasted longer do you think tanks such as the T28 & T32 would have been adopted?

In your opinion, what would have been winning scenarios for the french army in 1940 ? Ie. What could, or should the french army and/or the german one have done differently to avoid the historical rout ?

Suppose you've been approached by your employers at Wargaming (or some other developers) to pen a design doc for your ideal tank-related computer game. Budget or feasibility is of no concern at this stage, and the end goal is to make something you think would be entertaining, while also being informative (such as letting players build their own tanks but making them consider realistic design choices, or WoT wherein vehicles are crewed by multiple players). Or, put more succinctly, what would your "dream" tank-related game look like?

Sir, among the many types of countermeasures currently and under development, what would be your ideal countermeasure to protect a Main Battle Tank, such as the M1A2? I particularly find the idea of a CIWS Phalanx interesting, of course on a smaller scale.

Q&A: You have spoken on several occasions how the effectiveness of airpower as tank destroyers during WW2 was over stated, very few tanks were knocked out by planes, although the psychological impact should not be underestimated. With the rise of effective air to ground missiles and weapon systems such as the Apache and Warthog has that changed and if so, when do you think the change took place?

I would think that the M4A3E2 solved the issue of a American heavy tank quite nicely. It fits into the existing supply chain because it's a Sherman, it doesn't weigh more than the bridging or tank transporters of the time could support, and they know going into production that it will be reliable enough due to the tests that they did beforehand. So why stop at 250 as opposed to keep a percentage of production as converted into E2's?

Commissar Carl

Is there any particularly good reason (or a particularly bad reason) that the US army said "alright, 250 seems like enough of these 'Jumbo Sherman' things" after setting up unique castings, creating brand new track extenders, and redoing the transmission explicit for that model of tank?

Commissar Carl

Given how the project went and the obvious results, would the MBT-70 have actually gone anywhere, either the US or West German plans for it, or was it a case like some of the prototypes of the era where it was more or less doomed to go the way it did while teaching lessons along the way? - Cipherhornet18

As usual, a pair. 1) I've seen some images of rumored M829A4 that have granular propellant. I'm aware that M829A3 uses stick propellant, so could you give some insight into what advantages granular propellant has over stick propellant (if there are any), and why Orbital ATK (or whatever it's called nowadays) would make the switch? 2) Is there any advantage to larger-sized bricks of ERA versus smaller ones (I'm thinking things like the T-84 or T-80U's turret Kontakt-5 versus something smaller like the T-90A's suite, and finally to the numerous small bricks that the T-80BV has)?

What's your all time top 5 games, both electronic and tabletop? What's your top 5 movies, both war and non-war?

Charles Sherrange

Would you consider a M60 upgraded with the Raytheon SLEP program a good purchase for a country that needs to upgrade its tank force ? Provided the country can train its tank crews and has a workable doctrine. How many SLEP upgraded M60s do you think you could get for the price of 1 current Western MBT, Leo, Abrams etc.
