2025-05-12 13:34:44 +0000 UTCI do find the Netflix discussion very interesting as an EU/Irish viewer as yes, I agree that Netflix has gone downhill. I also think that all paid streaming sucks, so I’m defo not the ideal demographic but I assume Netflix is making some money at least UK and Ireland (maybe I’m wrong) as we don’t have things like Hulu, NBC peacock whatever, HBO, etc. I know we have NowTV, but I believe that’s owned by Sky the cable TV company thing. I think Sky is owned by Comcast? Anyway, even Paramount only became available here within the last few years. Now, mind you, I assume Prime does this shit everywhere where it says that a movies available on Prime and then it turns out you have to pay for it which is similar to what Disney did during the pandemic with Mulan or whatever, but as far as I can remember I don’t think you have to pay for any added movies or series or events yet. Also on the topic, Disney+ has star or whatever where we can watch things that I think are Hulu, but it’s no added cost at this moment anyway. And I will say, maybe I’m wrong but while Prime has ads at the start and end of every show, its advertising other Prime content like movies or series. I don’t know about Paramount, and NowTV has actual ads but its stupid prices and really is just trying to be an alternative to cable I think, maybe for the people who like don’t own a house and are renting or living with housemates or whatever that don’t have access to get cable TV or its too expensive for? I still live with my parents (Ireland is a shit show) so we have sky, so for like The Last of Us, True Detective, BBC shows and all that we just record it and watch it on the telly. But maybe NowTV is geared for people who want to watch those shows or football matches that don’t have a sky box or eir or whatever. Anyway, I’m just rambling now but I think my point is Netflix is definitely losing profit and we know that but I wonder if its losing less in parts of Europe as there’s not as many options for streaming. Idk though maybe i’m making shit up as I honestly don’t watch telly that often and not at all when i’m alone tbh.
