Cat Breed Guide: Skookum!

Goood Monday my garfields!!! Speaking of cat fans, which I'm sure we all are here as this is a safe space, does anyone have any helpful recommendations for caring for a long haired boi? I brush Breakfast EVERY DAY!!! Sometimes more than once a day! but there's always more hair coming off when I pet him, and lately he's had hairballs too!!! It makes me sad... I found out they sell hairball control churus so I'm really excited for them to come in the mail. (brebby will NOT eat crunchy or solid treats... he's a picky eater chicken nugget type kid, which is giving me another comic idea as we speak, oh lord) but maybe there's some other cheat code to help with shedding. I can't shave him because um, I'm shallow.

ANYWAYS! This week's breed sounds like some sort of slur or swear word. But it's actually just a little guy, suggested by Kaori! Thank you so much! I love learning about a little freak, but many of their origin stories are just "someone wanted a lil freak, and so they manifested it into reality, for reasons"

I also use a hairball gel for my shorthaired cat. It helps so much, the one I have is catnip flavored but I know they come in all sorts of flavors like maple syrup and fish, ect.

Our cats are short haired, so ymmv, but I noticed a drop in hairball incidents after I started mixing hairball control paste into their wet food. The one I have now is from Brit Care, and it's just called Anti-Hairball Paste. But I'm not in the states, so you may not have that exact one where you are. In any case, it's got the consistency of petroleum jelly, so I think it's just like an ultra lubricant for passing hairballs, long human hair (that they eat for some reason), etc.

"Skookum" means great/big in Chinook. This cat breed seems like... not that.

this is the most perfect kitten i have ever seen

I use those brushed that get to the undercoat and feed them a churu to stay chill. Also might be crazy but when I started adding just a few squirms of the omega fish oil it made him alot silkier and not as matted!

Second the equigroomer! It's insane how much dead hair it pulls out!!

I think god or whatever also wanted a little freak and manifested me into reality

Delightful

I use a brush called an Equigroomer for my fluffballs. It pulls their loose coat out without irritating their skin, which is great bc they have very fine hair that normal combs don't really remove.

Wait I guess all cats are made up, huh.

Ok I'm not entirely convinced you didn't make this one up. Even so, #skookums4life

Ooo I’ll try this I’ve collected so many types of brushes in search of The One!!! Thank you…

For heavily shedding cats and dogs both I recommend "dematting" brushes, especially the ones with curved bristles. I could brush my Pyrenees mix all day with a standard brush and still have more (especially when seasons change) but with a dematting brush, about 30 mins 1-2 times a week and a good hour long session at seasonal changes helps keep me from eating nearly as much hair lol
