Too Many Video Ideas | October 2021 Update

Oops! I forgot to release an update in September, but this one should basically sum up what would've been said in that one. September was a weird month, where I had some good ideas for videos, but ended up having to take on some sponsored content instead. Back in August, I talked about having lost my job, so in order to continue working on this channel, I sometimes have to pivot for a few weeks.

Generally, sponsors have deadlines that have to be adhered to, so it's difficult to create big researched pieces in those cases. Instead, I usually recycle old scripts or cover basic topics. In the case of September, that was an old Anime Mythbusters idea, and an idea that I had for a Genshin Impact follow-up. With very little time to put those videos together, Youtube has never felt more like work.

So, for something completely different, my next video is an Animator Spotlight on That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. No sponsors, just good old fashioned chatting about a show that I really really like. Meanwhile, I've been thinking of even more videos that I'd really enjoy making. But now I've got a bit of a problem where I've pretty much got videos lined up for the rest of the year. They may not all happen, but I'd be interested in seeing what stands out:

Anime is Best in Anthology - A video about Star Wars Visions and Pokemon Evolutions

What Happened to Tesla Note: The Next EX-Arm? - A video about the spiritual successor to EX-Arm.

Anime: The Broken Medium - I react to my Anime: The Global Medium video and talk about what changed.

What Even Is Anime Anymore? - I talk about the rise of Netflix anime-inspired content.

Some of these are kind of already in the can already, but I'd be interested in hearing which of these sound the most interesting.

Comments

Probably briefly, but it's more about things that get called anime. But yeah, it's definitely part of the discussion.

Are you going to talk about all the Chinese anime in What Even Is Anime Anymore?

Albert Nakano

Anime Anthologies are going to be mostly about Pokemon Generations/Evolutions and Star Wars, but still touch on 18if, Animatrix, and a couple others.

The Canipa Effect

Those are the two that are definitely going to happen, so that's good!

The Canipa Effect

Gotta love how the last two are cynical follow-ups, as if to reflect growing more cynical of things as time goes on. BTW, I'm all for Anime Anthologies (though I haven't seen the ones its going to potentially cover)

I think my 2 favorites are Anime:Broken medium and Anime Anthology SW !

The Madhouse one was more a glaring omission. The Anime: The Global Medium video dated very very hard lol.

The Canipa Effect

The one i would most likely enjoy most is "anime is best in anthology". I think that would be a really interesting video to tackle, and something i very much agree ahahah. There is also the fact i tend to prefer the videos focused on a particular series/studio, spotlights basically. I also wouldnt mind a video about netflix anime-inspired content or the video "anime: broken medium" (which i imagine is that video you said it was about you being "wrong"? Or was it about madhouse? idk, Seems interesting ahahah)

Thanks! I'm trying to avoid any sponsors that are directly related to anime, since I feel that's when things get a little too disingenuous. Makes it a lot easier to be critical about the industry when you're not waiting on a Kadokawa sponsorship!

The Canipa Effect

I don't mind sponsored content at all if it was something I was already interested in, tbh! That doesn't make it less pressure for you to produce under those limitations but I never feel like it's just an ad script. I really liked the Mythbusters one. It's rare in anime YouTube these days that it doesn't seem like you'll uncritically or disingenuously regurgitate what the audience or industry wants to hear, which is a really respectable decision to make as a freelancer. ファイ!
