Two For The Price of One! | November 2020 Update
Added 2020-11-03 01:25:03 +0000 UTCI genuinely can't remember the last time I released two videos in one month. In general, I've figured that one video each month means that I have the appropriate time to properly research, write multiple drafts of the script, and also do plenty of corrections before the video goes live. But what I never considered was how bored I am when I'm not working on a video. So this month, there was both Breaking Down The Legend of Korra's Incredible Animation and Genshin Impact's Homage to Anime.
The Legend of Korra video is one I'm particularly proud of, and I'm glad to see more people watching it. There's a load of information in there that even fandoms who spent years talking about the show don't know about yet. I also made sure to keep the involvement of Toph and Korra's voice actors a secret. In fact, even in the Patreon Preview for $15+ Patreons, I left that part out, because it didn't have the same impact in audio. Janet Varney did have concerns, but I really appreciated her trust in the end.
Genshin Impact was a topic I wanted to explore for two reasons: 1. It's super relevant right now. 2. We know very little about its creators. Researching for this one was kind of wild, and took me to a lot of strange places. But thankfully what tied it together was CGWorld's coverage of Honkai Impact 3rd where MiHoYo Anime Team's role was discussed and there was a comment from their director Geister. The fact that the video has any information in it at all is a good thing.
I talked about this a bit on Twitter, but the channel has definitely opened up in scope during 2020. Translation, Korean outsourcing, Chinese games. Everything's still connected to anime, but I am incredibly thankful to everyone who's stuck by the channel, even if my coverage wasn't exactly what you were expecting.
However, next month is about an actual Japanese anime, and one of my favourites of the current season. I spoke about background art in my Made in Abyss video, but this time we're digging a bit further into background design and imageboards as well.
The next video on The Canipa Effect is: "The Cyberpunk World of Akudama Drive"
Look forward to it!
