Unpublished Guts illustration from 1990
Added 2024-12-16 21:00:23 +0000 UTCWhen Berserk's serialization debuted, previews for upcoming releases were often new illustrations rather than existing ones, like it became the case later on. That makes sense given that the series was young and there wasn't a wealth of well-known pictures to pull from.
What's interesting is that a number of these previews never actually made it into the story proper, so they only survive in that form. Here is one from Animal House #8 of 1990, before the third issue of the series was published. Guts is mending his wounds and holding a broken knife. It foreshadows the battle against the Count (that happens much later), except things didn't quite go like that and this illustration was never used.
