Continuation discrepancy: Was the Sea Horse en route to Ys after Skellig?

[374] Was the Sea Horse en route to Ys after Skellig?
In Episode 374, the Sea Horse's first mate mentions Ys here:
Pictured: Ep 374, highlighted portion shows “Ii-su,” the katakana for Ys.
Puella’s translation: “I can’t believe you're saying these damn Kushans have extended their territory… even to this area of the ocean (Ys' territorial waters)".
This implies that they are near Ys, and presumably were traveling there after Skellig's collapse. But Ys was never said to be the Sea Horse's next destination. Sure, it's Roderick's home, so maybe they went there because they had no other plans, but it had not been set up beforehand.
This needs to be specified because Dark Horse mistranslated Roderick’s dialog in volume 30. When he agrees to take everyone onboard, they have him saying that Skellig is "right on my way home." In fact, what he really says is "I was already on my way home", because his business in Vritannis is concluded. Meaning that his schedule is open and he's ready to leave. But he had no specific plans to go to Ys.
Back to 374, there's this other line that requires some parsing to understand:
First mate: “Captain… this area is in the middle of the ocean, far away from the land."
If they are in the middle of the ocean, far away from land, then why do we see them in the next episode rowing from the Sea Horse to land? The only way I can make sense of this and another discrepancy introduced in 375 is that the fog surrounding the ship over the last few episodes (since the whirlpool) has off-the-page magically transported them to a different part of the ocean than they thought they were. A contrivance to immediately move the story to the next plot point (the encounter with Rickert and the Bakiraka).
