: But I think it had the fun of a manga that was trendy at that time while also feeling nostalgic.

I was absorbed in "Devilman" when I was in elementary school. Things Nagai Go-sensei gave us, like the fear and excitement of another world invading reality, I experienced them in this work "Devilman".

Miura: And from that came the "Megami Tensei" series, I see.

Hashino: It's one of the reasons why I entered the company Atlus. In "Berserk", I also felt an essence that leads to this kind of worldview.

Miura: I was also greatly influenced by Nagai Go-san.

Hashino: Actually, Soejima, the art designer, is a bigger fan of "Berserk" than I am.

Soejima: I'm not saying this because I'm in front of Miura-sensei, but there are a few manga that I want to read again and again and "Berserk" is one of them. I really have read it over and over again. Actually, I was buying "Monthly Animal House" (at the time), so I started reading it from the first episode.

Hashino: A fanatic has appeared. *laughs*

Miura: You were buying such a thick magazine!? Didn't you have trouble finding space to keep it? laughs

Soejima: I'm a bit younger than Hashino. As a result I didn't grow up with Nagai Go-sensei. I grew up with Fujiko Fujio-sensei's work, and before I knew it, I was on Lodoss Island, as I had grown up in a clean environment. *laughs*

That's why I can't forget the shock I felt when I read "Berserk", when I saw "the first part of a fantasy that was well-constructed from the beginning". After that, when the story was developed with the mercenaries, I was also impressed with its realness, it was not just a story about a royal family even though (the background) was Medieval Europe.
