A look at Young Animal #17 of 1994, featuring Berserk Ep. 42
Added 2024-03-07 12:09:13 +0000 UTCHere is a look at Young Animal's 17th issue for 1994. It was published in August and features episode 42 of Berserk: "Fugitives" (逃亡者たち). It sports a color page that would become volume 8's cover (it was released at the end of October). Episode 42 is itself collected in volume 9, which came out in April 1995.
Back then, the magazine was almost 10 episodes ahead of the volumes, a fact that incentivized fans to subscribe. It's only with volume 34, published in late 2009, that volumes fully caught up, with the prepublication having slowed down.
Miura's author comment for that issue was: "I'm too busy to reply to your letters. I'll do it in September." He would soon stop being able to reply altogether, as Berserk's success kept increasing and more fan mail kept coming.
As a side note, the advertisements, cover and layout of the magazine as shown here reflect the era.
