Kouji Mori's recent comments about the continuation
Added 2023-12-03 21:49:08 +0000 UTCMori recently gave a long interview where he mentioned his work on the Berserk continuation. In it, he reveals that they have to add or change things based on guesses in order for the story to make sense. He also says that he is hesitating on whether to incorporate certains elements or not because "Miura hadn't decided on them yet". It is notable as it goes back on his original promise when the project started.
Here is a translation of the key elements:
Q: How much longer will the serialization of Berserk continue?
I can't say for sure yet, but I already have an objective for how many years and how many volumes it will take to complete the project. However, (when) realizing them in drawings, some parts still don't make sense. So we have reinforced the original (by) guessing and discussing it together.
It’s hard to fill the void left by Miura, but on the other hand, I still discover new things, (saying) "(there’s) still this kind of device!?". Even I am surprised, though I heard about (the story) many times. So I take my hat off to Miura, who had already thought that far ahead at the time.
Q: Asking about the final episode.
The device until the final episode is really amazing, you'll be surprised. There are still many difficult problems and there are parts where Miura hadn't made a decision yet. To insert them or not, which would be better, I've been racking my brain on that every day, connecting them to the part of the story currently being discussed.
Note: "Device" refers to a narrative device.
Comments
I have the utmost respect for Mori, but I worry that the "end of Berserk" is literally just the bookend chapter of Berserk and nothing else.
