Berserk had dedicated fans in Japan long before the series was even known in the West. In the early days, some of these fans even made fanzines, like Berserk Freaks, for which three fans visited Miura in his workshop, interviewed him and took some pictures of him that are still widely used on the Internet today (without credit, of course).
Among those fanzines was the "Berserk Handbook" series. It's not particularly notable today, outside of the fact these people paid a lot of attention to details in ways most readers don't, for example pointing out the continuity of action between panels (e.g. Guts cuts a guy's head on one page, you see his head on the ground in following panels).
Anyway, I happen to have these from long ago and while trying to arrange my shelves I found these cute sketches and thought I'd share. They're from the 3rd "handbook", which was printed in December 1997. If I'm honest it's mostly the one of the chicken apostle that I felt I just had to share. 😁 Goes to show some things resonate with readers across time and cultures.
