Learning Japanese with Berserk: Falcon

Puella has thought of starting a series of posts about learning a little bit of Japanese from Berserk. Obviously this won't help you speak the language, but it will highlight some important words and nuances that are used in Berserk. You might even be able to spot them if you check out the manga in Japanese!

To begin, we chose a simple word that's actually a not-so-simple kanji in Japanese: 鷹. Pronounced TAKA (たか), it's the word for hawk or falcon. Closely associated with Griffith, hearing it is enough to get Guts angry nowadays.

It's used in the series in terms like 鷹の団 (Band of the Falcon), 白い鷹 (White Falcon) or 光の鷹 (Falcon of Light). In the early years, the word was usually translated as "hawk" in English, however that changed after Miura introduced the Millennium Falcon arc, and then the chapter of Falconia.
