Aya probably never meant to do it.

Nevertheless, the windowpane had been subject to inward water pressure for too long and could not withstand the new force. While she meant it as just a show of protest, her pulling of the handle broke a precarious balance of forces, compromising its airtight seal. The window cover flung open and at the same time an enormous quantity of water came rushing in. Now, with Aya moving the handle, that precarious balance has collapsed.

Torrents of seawater overran Chihaya's face. For a split second, her sight became all white foam, and then water level quickly rose to blinded her. Ensuing spinning flow played and toyed with her body like a light buoy, and after a series of twists and flips, Chihaya was slammed hard against the bulkhead. She felt a dull pain in her back and exhaled air bubbles that she had kept in her lungs. Chihaya moved her arms and legs frantically, lifting her up to the overhead that she could now touch with her both hands. Trying not to bump her head, Chihaya’s probing fingers came across no water surface. This meant the cabin was apparently completely flooded.

(I can't breathe...)

Chihaya glanced at the dim sun rays coming through the porthole below her. Will I be able to get out of there? But she already knew the opening was too small for anyone to pass through.

But where did Aya go?
