The sudden death of my father weeks ago was a shock that required a lot of bureaucratical and emotional labor and it has taken much of my time and energy. It's still an ongoing process in fact. He had no will, a lot of debts, and plans that needed to be canceled. You don't really get to rest and grieve until all the bureaucracy is dealt with. If I had any advice to give to you all, it's to make sure there is a plan for when these things happen. We don't like to think about it, but it will happen to all of us eventually. The last thing you want is to go into debt paying 10s of thousands in bills until you get life insurance, which can take weeks or months to acquire without a plan.
Thank you all for sticking with me and supporting me through this time. I wish my creativity could flow as it did, but it will take time for things to go back to normal. We were planning a trip to Europe together this fall, we rarely ever vacationed, but it's one I'll be taking without him now. I was eager to start the development of v0.18 early but it seems something always happens between updates to fuck things up. So again, thank you so much for your support during these times. I wouldn't have been able to give him the burial I think he would have wanted without it.
I am actively trying to work now but the creative process is very strained for the time being. Things are slow, but I'm certain they'll go back to normal given enough time. I will keep you all updated with greater frequency going forward.

2023-09-03 15:41:19 +0000 UTCMy condolences. It has been almost a year since my grandfather died. My younger brother and I have been living with him and my grandmother to help take care of them. The four of us had a routine and everything put together around the old man... even now we find ourselves setting his place at the table, expecting him to make his quips about dinner being awful, or being asleep in his chair. Best I can say is to give it time for the pain to lessen and hold onto the best gift he left you: memories.

Things do get better and life will eventually go on. Just take it slow and give the amount of emotional and creative power towards this project that you feel is doable (even if thats 0%). I'd rather wait a while longer for you to be in a good place to keep working than have you pushing yourself to do it NOW just because.
