After hastily signing up with Disney Plus and trying a couple of different VPNs, I finally got to view Disney/Pixar's Elemental which is not yet available on the Japanese platform. After viewing - overall I thought it stuck to an "elementa-ry" (hehe) plot development and made an exceptional use of the characters' bright and distinct colors. And, despite the somewhat negative 'Woke' publicity the mouse company has been getting recently, I found it to be beautifully written and performed. It was essentially a story of acknowledging and embracing your differences, and seeking your own destiny. The theme was very relatable and is something that we (savaster) as storytellers would also want to pursue in our own works like AGVG and Tiger Lily. In case this was 'Woke' in the true sense of its word, I'd welcome it with open arms.
One side note, I initially thought that Ember's parents would probably be immigrants from East Europe (say Poland or Ukraine) in the real life, but when Ember did that deep bow at the end, I felt the discipline to be distinctly East Asian. And later I did find that the director Peter Sohn was a second-generation Korean who was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, where his family ran a grocery store. Aha.
