HCM City Thrills
Added 2023-09-24 12:59:01 +0000 UTCI’m just back from a trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and this pic is from a book/toy store in Vincom Center, a relatively high-end department store in the downtown district. Based on what I have seen in this and other stores and per one of my local hosts who happened to be very keen on this subject matter (lol), people in Vietnam seem to be really in love with Doraemon (locally pronounced "Doremon") - it's everywhere. The manga series itself seems to be widely read too, with many readers preferring paper copies rather than reading electronically.
It was interesting to see that something that I thought had a very domestic and outdated tone for the modern audience as Doraemon is still thriving and has taken a unique course of evolution in a country we often consider to be distant.
