She's a ball python (sometimes also called royal python)! They're recommended as first-time snakes because they're generally super docile and their bites aren't potent enough to seriously harm humans. They also have the distinctive kitty smile face which I think definitely helps the popularity.

I am in a similar boat. While never "terrified" of snakes, I have always been very timid around them, even at zoos. Frank is so amazing and it has really made me appreciate the majestic creatures they are!
