Added 2025-10-06 22:01:23 +0000 UTCJust like the end card of the video mentions this was supposed to be a Devil Ram x Angel Rem kinda thing but we changed the idea to focus on just one model. Really lucky that Selenite had a Shadow Ann ready and waiting. The uniform was paid by me at some point, surprisingly enough. Some cosplay I "bought" gets lost or forgotten, you see.
Much to my frustration we couldn't get an assistant for this shoot so things went a lot slower than I would have liked. Had to extend our rental time at the end; thankfully the studio admin was nice enough to allow us to continue making all that popping noise. We were technically breaking the law since you can't be noisy after 10 PM here...
Once again I wanted to learn more lighting techniques and for this I rented out a 90cm chinaball with a skirt on a boom; basically a big soft source that is then controlled by a big piece of black fabric hanging down; you put that above your actress to get very nice dramatic overhead lighting. Someone in the rental office fucked up because we got the skirt for the smaller chinaball. It worked but not as well as I would prefer. Still, I got what I wanted and especially in the end of the video it does look like Selenite is in this dark void. There's a lot of cabling and equipment hiding in that darkness! If only I didn't make the stupid decision to fill in the shadows with a harsh light source from BELOW. Absolute dumbman.
You know, the models do want to look pretty and they do dislike it when I fuck up the lighting. Most prominent example is Carnelian really not liking her Mikasa videos. She thinks she looks 20 years older than she actually is in those. Alas, learning naturally comes with mistakes, lots of them. And this year has seen a lot of learning for me. I still feel bad for the girls.
The composite wasn't too hard though there are some artifacts that could probably be smoothed out by more thorough work. I just didn't have the time to do a perfect job here. Looks fine for it is. The audio really doesn't support the story too well and that's because I was finishing it 3 hours before release. Look forward to Studio FUUSEN Season 4 Complete 4K Collection, I guess?
Even with a shot list we've made some mistakes; that incudes the whole fabric over the mirror fiasco (forgot about it when building the list) and also we shot a bit more than we needed for the mirror part. You can find that extra footage in the folder below.

It's all very interesting to see how the video comes together, like appreciating all the parts of a machine even if you don't know how they work.
