CHAPTER 1
One day, Guts and Griffith enter Zodd's cave to defeat him and learn the legend. Griffith tells Casca to stay with the army and Griffith goes after Guts. For hours, Guts and Griffith do not leave the cave. Casca becomes suspicious. He gives orders to the army, saying:
“If I don't come back for a long time, get into the cave!”
The army approves Casca and waits.
Casca enters the cave and starts walking for a long time. The further he walks, the darker and more frightening the cave becomes. Casca starts shouting “Guts, Griffith, where are you?” as she moves forward.
Casca suddenly hears Guts' voice and Guts says, “Casca, don't come here.” Casca then starts running towards where the voice is coming from. Casca suddenly collapses while running. Just as she is about to get up and take another step, she sees something tangled around her foot. It is pink and sticky. Casca cuts the pink thing with her knife and just as she is about to keep running, dozens of the pink and sticky things start to surround her. Casca realizes that these pink things are tentacles, and says:
“What a disgusting thing! Is it a demon, are the legends true?”
A disgusting face appears out of the tentacles and says to Casca:
“Yes, beautiful, I am real and I am a demon. You cut one of my tentacles. I could k-ll you here, but I won't. I'm giving you a chance. Win and you're free, lose and I'll k-ll you.”
Casca cannot move, and is forced to accept the demon's offer.

Casca:
“I agree, but I want my friends too! What did you do with Guts and Griffith?”
Demon:
“If you win, I'll tell you what happened to them. Now then, let's get on with our game. I'll ask you one number question, and you only get one answer. If you get the number right, I will give you a prize equal to that number and you will live!”
Casca:
“I don't want a reward, I just want to live. I want to see my friends!”
Demon:
“No, if you don't take the reward you will die. Anyway, my question is, how many tentacles do you think I have?”
Casca starts counting nervously. She counts including the tentacle she cut off, not missing any tentacle. And she says to the demon:
“You have 40 tentacles, so the number is 40.”
Demon:
“Oh! That's right, baby, I spare your life, but I have 40 rewards for you. We'll make 40 babies with you. I will fertilize 40 baby eggs in your belly.”
