Why I Create

Dear Freinds!

I'm so excited to begin a conversation about the creative process here on Patreon!

To get started, I wanted to share a bit about why I create, the journey I had to take to answer that question, the deep poetry of our existence, and the necessity of beauty.

Looking forward to hearing your own thoughts and questions as we begin this exciting discussion :)

Your pal,

Eva

Nashville is a rough place... sometimes I wonder at commercialism and how many things it has the power to destroy inside of us. And around us for that matter. The experience definitely made me realize how fragile beauty is.

Lady Moon

Thank you for sharing your story. Commercialism can really kill true art. I think I would survive about three days in the Nashville scene😮

Wow, this is amazing! You are wise far beyond your years, Eva. Wish I'd have seen this earlier, makes much of my post in your later discussion somewhat repetitive, sorry about that. It probably also makes what I was going to add superfluous. You've already said it here. You must have generated some good karma along the way too, to have met your husband when you did. Sounds like he came along at just the right time and was just the right person for you! Seems you've already "arrived" and are tapped into the positive "life force" and its regenerative energy, just keep doing what you're doing. Many spend a lifetime trying to figure out what you already have. Cheers!

I love this conversation! You have become so wise through your life journey, and I love how you have become soft-hearted on the other side of it. I create because I can’t help it! It’s an overflow from deep inside myself. I will use anything to create, whether various artist mediums, cooking/baking, music, writing… anything! I feel physically ill in those seasons in life when I can’t create. And so many people tell me I should sell, create a business, and pursue various artistic careers. And I have tried SO many paths into making my art a business, and it always turns more BUSINESS than art and frustrates me. But creativity comes out of my pores 😂 and not everything I do is perfect- I just do it for the sake of it!

Wow! Jassen, this is so exciting! I'm very happy for you. I know when we had coffee you mentioned your love for writing comedy. I'm very happy to hear you have more time for creative writing.

Lady Moon

So happy to have you here, Jorge! I hope it's helpful ;)

Lady Moon

Thank you for sharing this. So happy that you found your light! I write in order to get The Things out of my head. When they are trapped inside my brain, they are a cacophony that inhibits sleep, induces stress, and generates casual wanton cussing. Once written, they are catharsis. All of my published works have been business-related, but now I'm fortunate to be in a position to dust off stacks of short stories, snippets of poetry, and extensive idea lists to delve into fiction and satire. I can't imagine not writing, but now I get to write for the joy of writing, instead of for the ROI.

Thank you for sharing. You have an amazing journey and inspiration even in your dark times. You were able to connect and show others they were not alone and were a light of hope and determination of keep going and succeeding. It’s such a pleasure to see you grow and create with your new outlook and creativity. So deep wonderful and so much beauty From your playing lyrics and creations and style. Love to see you shining so brightly and passing along so much wonder to all.

Would love for you to dig up some old video with you and cello :)

Ryan, thank you so much for your kind words. I'm very happy that you're here! It makes me sad to think of you being a frustrated creator. At the same time, I understand. I had a dream of being a cellist, I took lessons from an amazing German professor for two years even, but between the demands of touring and life I was never able to practice enough to create the sound I heard in my head. I think that is the great pain of creation... it takes so much time to make something that satisfies us. I definitely understand the frustration of not having enough time to do so. And I also think most people (including myself) are not born with talent, but are blessed with the time and encouragement to develop it. So I wish you more time to dabble! Because that's personally my favorite way to create ;)

Lady Moon

Hello Jorge my friend! You know, the only thing I can safely say is that I had to write tons of songs I didn't like before I ever wrote one I felt was good. I think my advice would be don't give up! Give yourself the grace to learn the craft of writing and set reasonable expectations. It may take a lot of writing before you write something you like. And that's ok! It's completely normal. On a practical level, there's a book that I enjoy called 'Writing Better Lyrics' by Pat Pattison. It has some very helpful exercises to prime the mind for writing.

Lady Moon

I'm guessing many artist find the Nashville scene to be toxic. Very happy you found someone to help put you in your grove and help save your creative soul. Thanks for the insightful and candid video. You've created a very good space here for us to follow a remarkable musician and song artisan. Even though i dabbled in drawing and music...I must count myself as one of the many "frustrated" creators that don't have the time or talents to produce a good result. :) But those creative times are the best way to calm and focus the mind.... even if the results were...well....crapola...:D It's very nice to come along for your creative journey and see your results.

Hi nEva !! This is Jorge. I found your message beautiful and soulful. as a musician I have a question about creativity. When feelings/ emotion came to your heart what come first?? Lyrics / melody or harmony. I am having hard time creating my own original music because I don't have any message to tell to people and when I have a melody in my mind I have hard time to put in the contest of the proper harmony. I am frustrated. I am capable to play covers from any band but when comes the time to create my own music I fail. I feel like I will never be able to create my own music. Any tips you can give me. Greeting from Jorge
