Sneak Preview: Gesture system

 

Hi Guys,  

Take a look at what we're working on right now! I just did a quick test run and this gesture system is something we'd like to implement in the game. Now bear with me, the video attached to this project is just in the test enviroment. Everything you see is just a test setup. Animations are floating, skins and such aren't connected... We only wanted to test the gesture system in here... :)

As you might notice I am using my Oculus touch controller to draw symbols in the air (in this case a straight line forward) to make the char walk towards the chair and stand still.. The idea is that we make use of simple gestures (circle, square, rainbow, etc, etc) which will start an animation (sequence) based on which object you're looking at and which symbol you draw. At the moment only the forward line is doing something. I could imagine that a rainbow while looking at the chair would mean the character would sit down. A triangle would mean bend over it, etc etc. If you then look at a dildo, the square could mean pick it up, triangle, pick it up and use it, etc etc.. Every object would have it's own unique set of symbols which would be displayed near the object when you're looking at it.. Ofc this visual assistance can be turned of to give it a even more immersive feel :)

This is the basic and proof of concept of the gesture system and we'd love to hear your thoughts / feedback on this one! Nothing is final right now, and if you guys come up with good ideas,don't hesitate to comment or drop us a mail! We're always open for feedback! Leave your comments behind in the section below!

Although gesture system is not related, I hope entire man body capture with vive tracker( I hear it can be using 3 vive tracker). so more reality will increase for users.

hmm.. no idea if the system can detect gestures in runtime, would be cool if people could make their own gestures yeh! We'll investigate this one!

Good point Dance. We investigated the voice recognition commands a while back ago (that would be our preference too ) but we're running into some serious issues there: 1. Windows language has to be set to English 2. Only latest windows will work This makes it not an option unfortunately.. Regarding your other comment.. it will always be our intention to play the game one handedly :D

I have no problem with menus but the hand motions are neat. Honestly though, our hands might not be on our controllers all the time ;) I think voice recognition commands might be a better way to go.

The whole point with the gesture system is to get rid of menus. Once you've learned the gestures, you can hide assistance information and just draw to the air; ride me, suck me, turn around etc. We are working really hard to get Amoreon ready at the summer.

"Every object would have it's own unique set of symbols which would be displayed near the object when you're looking at it" If the actions are going to be displayed anyway, it would be much faster just to make that a point-to-select menu rather than adding an extra layer of redundant hand-waving.
