(C) Through Atoms — A Freestyle Fall

Firstly, I want to say that Fable is so awesome for wanting to include this picture into their character‘s actual lore. It is as far removed from a literal representation as I could make it without chopping up perspective totally, so I‘ll be impressed once that has been accomplished. I mean, isnt a character metaphorical anyways? I think that‘d be delving too deep for an introduction though. But but but, secondly, as for the MEANING (which I love to premasticate because I am an insufferable theorist,) here‘s my approximation.

Two things occur to me about Aesop/Fable. Firstly, he‘s got a quill, he writes. Secondly, he‘s black and white. Very simple, very suited for a piece without colour. Whether the lack of colour helps remove the unneeded literal, emotional, narrative tenets of a painting or not is up to the viewer, but to me it helped a lot in my process — with quickly developing something without attempting to transmit a time and place, season and direction of light. (Cue Queen‘s „I want to break free,“ out of context.)

Between black and white, there is grey. An indistinguishable, blended look accompanies this grey at the bottom and up the sides of the canvas. Sure, I introduced some muddy forms, but it‘s all very liquid, relating to water, unformed thought, confusion, swirling chaos, the beginning and the end of matter. What does the eye mean? Why did I put an eye at the bottom for the quill to pierce? Does the abyss stare back? I‘m sorry, that‘s so pretentious. God. I just knew it needed to be there. Something in me called, it was there from the first sketch, like the composition itself wanted it. And at that point, as an artist, you don‘t ask WhAT It AlL MeAnS. I believe it works xD I could write down a hundred ragged attempts at deciphering it. In the end a lot of them are probably going to contain something valuable. A single meaning definitely would remove the need for the image to even be there in the first place.

„But then there was Fire, and with Fire came Disparity.“

You may laugh! You may laugh at me for quoting that brilliant game. But it‘s ar-che-ty-pal. It‘s true. Fire tears asunder (one “magical“ quality of it is that it turns the solid into smoke, transitions the bodies of the deceased from the here to the hereafter.) It casts a shadow (dont let me drift off on a tangent about that,) it warms us as we sit around it and tell stories at the very beginning of our consciousness, which are exercises in language before we can even record.

Stories — which Fable represents. Writing brings in that aspect of transmission, exponential growth, recording, history, sense of time, BLA BLA BLA. In whatever way you want to see the quill itself, parting the ocean, piercing, inscribing, turning into lighting (disparate charges, ions and electrons, divinity which springs from our imagination), introducing definitive and ineradicable lines over indecisiveness and leaving behind, from the liquid grey, only the solid architecture (and the clouds, I suppose.) (Also, the architecture has been made weird to enforce it representing more than a single building. It could be civilization, it could be anything constructive in short. ) Pen and Sword, tale as old as time. From grey, you cut to Black and White. Also, note how Fable‘s feathers and fur tear loose into sheets of paper. I liked that part.

So Fable, I actually do look forward to hearing more about this durg. I didn‘t mean it in a mocking kind of way what I said at the start. Fable is actually a very creative person, and I love how many worlds and ideas they come up with constantly at the speed of sound. Fable also draws that quickly, and I‘m dead confident that there is a lot to  achieve for em. Thank you very much for your confidence in me as well of course. Because really, I only got to do this piece in the first place because I was sitting in voice call with Fable, Max and Mathias, and just heaved a complaint over my lack of . . . makin money, I think? You know, because I‘m still so slow sometimes. So a piece like this, where I could ponder and do my own thing without any intervention, was relieving to me.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart :3

Yall have a great season this year by the way. It‘s arse-cold outside for me so the human warmth is appreciated. Weh weh! Have a great week :V (If I've wished everyone Merry Christmas or whatever on another post, I'm sawwy, I repeat myself. Lmao.)
