October Mini: "The Chamber"

Patreon recently added some new features, including something called "Quips", which I've been using a little, and am seeing a small uptick in new members from. However, I'm not sure if anybody sees the Quips feed without browsing the Patreon app, so it's possible that many of my current backers missed the clip, so I am reposting it here where I know folks will receive notifications.

As explained in the video, this 'zine from 1998 was part of my Art School senior thesis. I published a small run of these 'zines, and put free copies in a group show with the other art school seniors. I had a series of small paintings as well, that worked as a comic strip when you looked at them in order. It was about low-brow vs. high-brow art, something I was very sensitive about in those days, being that I just wanted to make comics but was going to a Fine Arts school during a time when nobody in that world took comics seriously. Funny to me that I had such a chip on my shoulder, when the comics of mine that I wanted people to hold in such serious high-regard included this petty slice-of-life comic book about what stoned jerks I thought all my roommates were.

As expressed in the video, the 'zine makes me feel bad now, for being such a judgmental jerk! - but also, looking back on this stuff is fun, and can spark a little inspiration. I have decided to make something new out of this relic from the past, and will be creating a new version of "The Chamber" for my October mini. Here's a tiny glimpse:

The comic will be 24 pages, black and white, digest-sized. Digest-sized means 5.5x8.5', and is of course the exact right size 'zine to fit nicely into the 'Zine Storage Boxes I'm going to be producing in the coming months. Would you like one? There is still plenty of time left to support my crowdfunder.

More to come on the October comics soon. Thanks as always for reading along!

Mike
