2021-01-18 17:20:04 +0000 UTCOne of the great bungles of this show is Xander's character. He's one of my less favourite characters and I think is has to do with them not doing a great job at providing the reason Xander can many times be a jackass. His home life is akin to a warzone. There basically has never been a good role model for him to learn from. Yet they don't show that pretty much at all. They make little quick statements (usually just jokes) about his home life and then they move on. I think it would have done a lot for his character if they actually showed some of what he has to put up with at home. So if you feel your hate on for Xander coming, just try and remember that. I'm pretty sure the writers used it a motivation for his dialog and actions much of the time.

If you remember after he saves her from becoming bride of Frankenstein she looks at him like she admires him and in a genuine way says “ Xander? I just wanted to thank you for saving my life. What you did in there was really brave and heroic, and I just wanted to tell you if there was anything that I could ever do to...” I don’t like this ship either, but to be honest I don’t like Xander and think he has a lot of growing to do before I could ship him with anyone. It is well set up, though.
