Tim has been on my radar with his VSO for several years now. I had one of my former teammates have a mental breakdown and it ended with the Orlando PD putting 15 rounds in him. He amazingly survived but out of nowhere came this ❝VSO❞ called the Birdwell Foundation and Camp Valor. I was running point between things like VSO’s and attorneys since once the OPD realized he had survived what they had previously called a tragedy they ended up stacking so many felonies on him they could think of. But when talking with the point man for this VSO the family had asked me to vet something just really didn’t feel right so I did some research. Turns out that had changed their name because it had come to light that one of their ❝best counselors❞ wasn’t even a real counselor. And not only was he doing something he had no training for be had also been telling people about his operator background and even would lead sessions with thirst on displaying the entire tower of power. He was even ❝training❞ the local police. Turns out it only was he practicing medicine without a license much less accreditation, his military career was with the New York National Guard as an MP and had never even deployed once. It was literally a situation where the monkeys were running the zoo. This guy obviously had something wrong with him but he’s counseling other door kickers in how to cope. Once the media uncovered this and got the VSO’s president to comment about it he seriously said that he didn’t care about this guy lying about every single thing and went on to say that he was still their best counselor. My teammate was putting his freedom on the reputation of this place and if the DA knew what I (and now his attorney) knew he would’ve been screwed. That’s when I reached out to Camp Hope. They said they would be ready and willing to take him as an alternative to incarceration but only after he was medically cleared. The only think my guy had going for him was that and that his mouth had been wired shut so he wasn’t able to give the OPD anymore more ammo to take his freedom away. They actually made a documentary about it.
