June 2024 - The Elephant in the Room
Added 2024-06-05 16:48:41 +0000 UTCHi folks,
I have always seen honesty as the best policy when it comes to communication.
Since these last few weeks, there have been statements made by RAZBAM and Eagle Dynamics regarding the state of the Strike Eagle, and ongoing "issues" between both parties that have yet to be solved. I am just as much in the dark as everyone else, but it is clear to me that the Mudhen's days in DCS may be numbered if the situation does not get resolved, support is dropped by RAZBAM and Eagle Dynamics keeps updating their platform with new maps/modules/core updates. I sincerely hope common sense prevails and we can get back to flying our virtual planes in our ever-expanding virtual worlds.
It rarely occurs to people that software might have a finite shelf life, but we have seen it with the (now extinct) VEAO Hawk in the past. It has happened before, and it could happen again. Time isn't something I used to think I'd have to fight against when it came to creating guides, but I don't know for how long we'll be able to fly the Strike Eagle without major regressions making it unusable. Days? Weeks? Months? Who knows?
I have been hard at work since October (almost 8 months) on this guide, and I fully accept that it may end up being for nothing; I have made my peace with it. We are now well past the 750-pages mark, and I believe I have to start thinking about at least finishing what I started before we no longer have the tools to do so. The end result might have a reduced scope... but even if it's just for posterity/completion's sake, I'll sleep better knowing I at least tried. Dr. Seuss said it best: "Don't cry because it's over... smile because it happened."
Therefore, priority is on the F-15E until further notice. Time is a luxury I can no longer afford for this module. Then, back to our regular program.

I, for one appreciate your efforts with this module. I want to at least get the most out of it while I can!

2024-06-06 02:41:31 +0000 UTCChuck, stop working on the SE. NineLine admitted that ED does NOT have the SE source code therefore, they cannot support it or continue it's development. https://www.reddit.com/r/DCSExposed/comments/1d93yci/confirmation_that_ed_doesnt_have_the_source_code/

2024-06-06 00:28:16 +0000 UTCYeah I agree it doesn't bode well for any razbam product. I've received a credit back from ED for my F15e purchase as I have little faith it will be resolved given how bitter the statements have been on both sides.

2024-06-05 22:15:41 +0000 UTCThis is an unfortunate situation and I have been taking my time to jump into this module. But it was always comforting to know I could jump in later and your guide would be there when I was ready. I’m also saddened b/c the Harrier was the first module I learned inside and out (and still my fav) and I always eagerly await updates for it in each changelog, but alas… Hopefully this all gets resolved soon. Appreciate your continued work in this space.

2024-06-05 21:03:52 +0000 UTCAbsolutely agree with PreAmp and with your decision here. I've been expecting word like this, and honestly, as painful as it is, I think it's for the best, under the circumstances. Keep on keepin' on!
