November 2023 - Of Mudhens and Phantoms
Added 2023-11-01 19:00:07 +0000 UTCHi folks!
Work continues on the F-15E guide. The start-up procedure is almost done. After that, we'll take the Mudhen to the skies and start figuring out how all these fancy sensors work. There is a lot of material to cover, and I am still trying to find a good balance to avoid overwhelming readers with excessive amounts of information while still being useful. There will always be people who find my work either "not technical enough" or "too technical" (or sometimes both); it's a constant challenge to find the sweet spot to please as many people as possible.

In other spooky news, Heatblur recently released last Sunday a "phantastic" trailer for F-4E Phantom II pre-order reveal. Once again, the team has knocked it out of the park by giving a masterclass in how to introduce a DCS module. Obviously, I mashed the pre-order button the minute it went live.

Tons of interesting new features have been showcased such as an interactive manual that you can access just by clicking on a switch (which is an amazingly useful feature), a walkaround position with simulated crew chief, component wear, JESTER 2.0, and much more.

The F-4E is one of my all-time favorite jets and is right up my alley. It has everything I like in a plane; steam gauges, seat-of-the-pants flying, loud smoky engines, and weapons that range from old school dumb bombs to semi-active missiles and heaters. The 1960's era fighters are in my humble opinion so much more fun to fly than their modern counterparts. This is going to be something different.

I think your guides hit a great balance between the technical details and the things we need to do to fight the jet… the fact that you’re getting complaints on both sides is probably a good thing 😁

I find the manuals always allow you to push the envelope and that is great. The objective is to always get the most out of the simulator. I believe that is what DCS is all about. I look forward to your manuals to help me get the most out of what I work at. As an example of Tech or not Tech, I looked and listened to a UTube review dealing with the pilot, of all things, the helmet he was using contained in Heatblur F4 trailer. Wow, now that is what I call minutia guess there is no end to Tech or not to Tech. Looking forward to the F4 manual and Simulator. I for one am very with all your work. Many thanks.
