October 2021 - Month of the Slow Burn
Added 2021-10-12 21:36:06 +0000 UTCHi folks!
I have been working on the Mosquito guide for the last few weeks, which has been great. However, I must admit that progress has been slower than expected. Annoying. Real life often gets in the way, and last month has been no exception. I had less time than I initially anticipated, and with the upcoming DCS updates later in 2021... I can see a scope-creep-shaped giant iceberg heading right towards me.

This month's post won't be very long since the Mossie is pretty much the only thing I am working on right now. I am still running into some issues regarding missing features such as rockets and delayed bomb fuzes (which is very annoying but to be expected due to the nature of Early Access) and ambiguous documentation on certain features. There are a few "new" things I'd like to include in the Mossie guide, but I would rather spend more time researching these subjects and make sure certain features work as advertised rather than pump out pretty pages about systems I know little about. This is going to be an interesting challenge.
Oh, and have you guys seen the DCS Apache trailer? Wow... this could very well shape up to be an impressive module if the system codebase under the hood is solid.

There have been some posts on social media asking if I would be able to create a Day One Guide for this one. The answer is no. This may seem like a surprise for some, but I am not a part of the Eagle Dynamics team and have no privileged or special access to development builds... nor am I interested in doing so. To me, keeping a certain independence from development studios helps me keep a sane attitude towards the hobby. I don't owe anyone anything, and vice-versa. I work on my projects for fun; I'm a simple guy and like things to keep being simple.
The development of the Apache Guide will be a daunting task, which will likely require months of work. To give you an idea, the first iteration of the F-16 guide took me about 4 months to develop... even with all the "WIP" red tape. This might take a while, especially since we don't know what the future holds and what surprises lie in the DCS Update Doom Vault (tm). I haven't been very lucky with timeframe predictions so far, so I would rather not speculate about anything. Bottom line is... "It will be done when it will be done".
Stay tuned for next month, where I believe we will have much more interesting things to discuss!
