Secret Documents #52: AJS-37 Viggen Guide Update - Landing
Added 2020-11-27 11:01:00 +0000 UTCHi folks!
The Viggen landing procedures are now explained more thoroughly for both airbase landings and road base landings where no airfield codes are available. We will explore the two landing Master Modes: NAV, which is used for an instrument approach, and P/O (Precision Approach Radar / Optical), which is used for a visual approach. The Viggen's CK37 flight computer is truly a wonder of engineering in that regard; it could tell the pilot very accurately how to perform a precise approach without any sort of navigation aid whatsoever... which was quite an impressive feat at the time! The TILS (Tactical Instrument Landing System) tutorial will be revamped as well, but that will come a little later.

Here is a breakdown of how the Landing section is structured:
I. Landing Types
II. Landing Principles
III. Airbase Example – Visual Approach with no reverse thrust
- a) Landing Preparation
- b) Visual Approach – LANDNING P/O
- c) Touchdown with Aerobraking
IV. Road Base Example – Instrument Approach with reverse thrust
- a) Landing Preparation
- b) Instrument Approach – LANDNING NAV
- c) Normal Touchdown with Thrust Reverser
V. After Landing
