Novembörk - Month of the Viggen
Added 2020-11-01 17:27:21 +0000 UTCHi folks!
The A-10C II "Tank Killer" guide update is almost complete (I would expect the release before mid-November if all goes well), and while interesting features are coming for the F/A-18 and F-16 with the November patch... they will have to wait.
There's been a spooky module I've been wanting to revisit since 2017... and with the Mi-24 postponed to at least Q1 2021, I finally have the opportunity to bring the mighty Viggen's guide up to par. I don't necessarily think that the original version is terrible, but in hindsight there are many things I wished I had done differently back then. I've learned an awful lot during these last years and I think I can put this to good use for one of the weirdest but coolest DCS modules.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of planned improvements in no particular order:
- Radar section complete overhaul (include linear/logarithmic display, radar gain, radar modes (terrain avoidance, air-to-air, passive), etc.)
- Update takeoff section
- Explain Master Modes in more detail
- Further develop the radio section, especially the FR22
- Add a section specific to the CK37 computer (introduction, data display and entry panel, cheat sheet of computer address codes)
- Navigation Section complete rework (entering waypoints (B/M), markpoints (Bx) and landing bases (L1/L2) manually, making and using flight plans from data cartridges (Mission Editor, auto-generated, F10 map)
- Add Basics of INS, Drift & TERNAV
- Explain radar navigation and radar fixes
- Explain Autopilot Navigation
- TILS Landing section rework
- Add MÅL/RUTA reconnaissance function
- Re-do weapon tutorial structure
- Various improvements to weapon tutorials to make them less cluttered and more straightforward... especially the Bombing procedures
- Explain QFE
- And much more!

All these items may seem like it's a lot of work (and it is). I always found that the Viggen guide was kind of okay-ish, but I think that you guys and gals deserve better than "just okay". December is going to be very busy at work, so I want to make good use of the time I have available right now. So, the AJS37 is where I'll be putting most of my efforts for this month of Novembörk. Let's get swedish!
