To the Hornet fans, please accept my most sincere apologies... but the P-47 Thunderbolt just has a special place in my heart that no fighter jet will ever be able to fill. The F/A-18C update is ongoing but it will have to wait for a bit.
Not only was the Thunderbolt one of the most iconic aircraft of WWII, but Eagle Dynamics' recreation of the plane literally brings it back from the dead. When Republic Aviation was acquired by Fairchild, upper management had the "brilliant" (read: criminally stupid) idea to destroy every archive of Republic's classified documents, which included invaluable flight test data, engineering drawings, technical manuals dating all the way back to the company's foundation... basically anything that you would need to make a proper recreation of the P-47 today.
This is why, among all the planes in DCS, the P-47 is something that I cherish since it has become a virtual museum that will bring you back through time in the most accurate manner possible.
