Chapter 221 - Dawn Revelations!

{12th July 1991}

{Rigel's POV}

Morning sunlight seeped gently through the intricately carved windows of our suite, casting soft patterns onto the marble floors. Sleep had eluded me all night, my mind relentlessly replaying the cryptic clues I'd deciphered from Dhanvantari's book. Despite a generous dose of Pepper-Up Potion, a faint, lingering weariness clung stubbornly to the edges of my thoughts, tempered only by an undeniable excitement for the mystery I was slowly unraveling.

I sat alone at the common area table, a half-finished cup of coffee steaming gently beside me, the bitter scent sharpening my senses. Spread across the polished surface lay a large map of India, its vibrant colors and winding rivers neatly traced. My finger rested gently upon a marked location: Allahabad. The confluence of three rivers—Triveni Sangam—stood out plainly, the likely candidate for the hidden sanctum the book described.

I traced my fingertip slowly along the blue threads representing the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati. According to the notes I'd hastily scribbled from a Muggle travel guide, Allahabad was an important religious and cultural hub—but nothing hinted at its magical significance. Either the magical community here concealed their secrets exceptionally well, or the inheritance was hidden so thoroughly that even locals remained unaware.

I leaned back, exhaling thoughtfully. The clues circled endlessly through my mind:

"Seek my hidden sanctum, a haven of magic untouched by ordinary eyes. Follow the song of water to the place where three rivers meet beneath silver moonlight. There, speak the words of healing, and the way shall be revealed."

"Allahabad…" I whispered softly, tapping the map thoughtfully. "Could it really be there?"

'It did say untouched by ordinary eyes. Still, I need to speak the words of healing, does it mean Paseltonue, or do I need to learn the magics as described in the book... To be on the safe side, I should learn that magic anyway, also to give the impression that I didn't find anything unusual. Some of the early spells were written in a different local script, though, so I would need to get it translated.'

The creak of the bedroom door startled me from my musings. I looked up just as Ginny stepped quietly into the room, sleep still lingering on her face. She raised a hand to rub at her eyes, and the movement caused her crop-top to lift slightly, revealing a tempting sliver of smooth, pale skin. I froze, unable to look away as warmth blossomed within my chest.

She noticed me suddenly, eyes widening as her cheeks flushed deep crimson. "Oh! Rigel—I—I didn't think anyone would be up yet," she stammered quickly, embarrassment coloring her voice.

I gave her a gentle, reassuring smile, pretending not to notice her sudden shyness. "Good morning, Ginny."

"Good morning," she replied softly, averting her eyes and quickly slipping toward the attached kitchen, obviously seeking refuge—and coffee.

I returned my gaze deliberately to the map, giving her space to regain composure. A few moments later, she returned with a steaming cup, visibly calmer but still faintly flushed. She hesitated briefly, then sat gracefully beside me at the table.

Her eyes fell immediately upon the open pages of my notes and the map, interest sparking in her gaze. After a short, thoughtful pause, she turned toward me expectantly. "Did you find something yesterday, Rigel?"

I hesitated, uncertain how much I should share just yet. Then, slowly, I shook my head, choosing caution over eagerness. Ginny was perceptive—dangerously so. If this secret was as important as I suspected, she'd need a way to protect herself and her mind before I brought her fully into my confidence.

Instead, I shifted the conversation carefully. "Ginny, have you ever heard of Legilimency and Occlumency?"

She looked momentarily confused, curiosity quickly replacing the earlier blush. "No, I don't think so. Should I have?"

"Not necessarily," I replied reassuringly. "They're both rather obscure, advanced branches of mind magic. Legilimency is the art of reading minds, interpreting someone's surface thoughts and emotions directly. If one is proficient enough, then one can even scour their memories."

Ginny's eyes widened, both fascinated and wary. "And Occlumency?"

"Occlumency is the counter-practice," I explained patiently. "It teaches you how to protect your mind, shielding your thoughts and memories from intrusion. It helps prevent others from accessing your mind or manipulating you through magical means."

Her thoughtful expression deepened as she processed my explanation. "Like shielding your thoughts? That sounds incredibly useful."

"It is," I agreed gently, relieved she understood the seriousness. "Essential, even, especially when dealing with powerful magical knowledge—or magical enemies."

Understanding dawned visibly in Ginny's eyes, and her gaze sharpened immediately. "Rigel…are you saying we might need protection soon?"

I hesitated, careful with my words. "I'm saying it's a valuable skill to have. Magic, particularly rare or hidden magic, can draw unwanted attention. Being able to shield your mind provides safety—and keeps your secrets safe, too."

Ginny's expression turned resolute, her voice quiet but determined. "Then how can I learn it?"

A genuine smile curled my lips. I should've known she wouldn't shy away from the challenge. "It begins with meditation—learning to quiet your thoughts, steady your emotions, and control your focus. Once you've mastered that, you can begin strengthening your mental shields."

She nodded eagerly. "Show me how."

I shifted slightly in my seat, turning toward her fully. Ginny instinctively mirrored my posture, alert and ready.

"First, relax your breathing," I instructed softly, my voice dropping into a soothing cadence. "Close your eyes. Focus on nothing but the rhythm of your breathing. Inhale slowly, hold briefly, then exhale."

Ginny obediently closed her eyes, breathing deeply as instructed. The rise and fall of her chest became steady. Her posture gradually softened, and her shoulders released their tension.

"Good," I murmured gently. "Now, let your mind drift slowly inward. Imagine a quiet, peaceful place, somewhere entirely your own—a safe haven."

A gentle smile touched Ginny's lips, and for a long, comfortable moment, silence stretched between us, punctuated only by the sound of her breathing. Her mind visibly calmed, her mana growing still and serene. Watching her closely, I couldn't help but admire how naturally she took to it—how readily she trusted my guidance.

After several minutes, her eyes opened again, clear and focused. "Was that right?"

"It was perfect," I reassured warmly. "Occlumency begins with precisely this kind of meditation. The next steps involve building mental barriers—visualizing your thoughts and memories behind carefully constructed shields. Eventually, these barriers become instinctive."

Ginny's gaze softened, gratitude lighting her eyes. "Thank you, Rigel. For trusting me with this."

I smiled softly, the warmth between us comforting. "You're welcome. It's important that you're protected—no matter what we might discover next. Though it will take a long time for you to be able to form shields."

She nodded, understanding passing silently between us. Then, glancing back toward the map, she asked softly, "Will you tell me when you can?"

I hesitated only briefly, then met her gaze directly. "I promise."

The soft creak of another door opening interrupted our quiet moment, followed by Fred and George's boisterous laughter spilling into the common room. Sirius's amused voice joined in shortly after.

Ginny smiled ruefully, rolling her eyes playfully. "Seems our quiet moment is over."

I chuckled softly, gently rolling up the map and closing my notes, carefully tucking them away for now. "I suppose it is."

'There is a faster way to gain shields, but I don't think I should suggest attacking her mind...not yet.'

I second this wholeheartedly. I am particularly excited by the prospect of our protagonist acquiring new abilities through a ritual with Luna—or, indeed, with daughters of the Most Noble and Ancient Houses, whose lineages have long harbored arcane gifts. The notion that such women, once unwilling to participate in such rituals, now reconsider due to the potential of acquiring Rigel’s own gifts is compelling. I would be especially interested in how Rigel might leverage that, and whether or not it would be similar to the arrangements with Evelyn Rowle and Pansy Parkinson. Admittedly, I also find myself constantly drawn to what the results of intimacy with a ghost might bring Rigel. Might such an encounter—rare and ethereal—confer an elevation of the soul? Could it refine one’s aptitude for soul-bound disciplines or unlock a deeper attunement to magic itself? It invites fascinating speculation on the relationship between one’s soul and magical ability—or perhaps, magical affinity. Though currently I find myself most fascinated by the inheritance. The potential applications are boundless. Imagine, should the author will it, a moment far down the narrative road wherein Rigel, faced with a resurrected Voldemort or some equally formidable wizard, witch, or force, acquires this now-lost healing magic—revered as the most powerful healing magic to ever exist in India—to feign his own death. A strategic disappearance, granting him the time and space to cultivate power in secret until either the final battle or until he is capable of taking out his enemies through magical guerrilla warfare. Or perhaps, in the nearer term, he channels this gift to mend an incurable illness and, in so doing, captures the heart of a future character. In any case, if the author continues to develop such interesting plots and characters, I can say without hesitation that I will be here—chapter after chapter—until the last word is typed.

Loving the holiday in India but I also can't wait for the 2nd year to start. New classes and magic to learn. Plus a whole new year of ladies to try and do the ritual with like ginny and Luna. Also a bunch of ladies from the older year's who might still try and get a chance at his bloodline abilities.
