She’ll curl your hair, she’ll do your makeup, you have an event she’ll come early and leave late. I always thought of Cynthia from RHOA as a girls girl, she loved her girls.

2026-01-23 18:21:20 +0000 UTCthe last name thing in marriage is so interesting to me because if we’re talking about the patriarchy, does it really mean anything if you hyphenate your last name? you’re still adding his name to yours, regardless if you drop your last name. to me, it feels like a fake attempt at fighting the patriarchy bc if you’re really about it, you’d just keep your last name only. also, to be really against the patriarchy…would women still be getting married? especially since we know that marriage is deeply rooted in patriarchy? like ok, you hyphenated your name but you’re still choosing to take part in a practice that still upholds the patriarchy in a way?

As women, we like to believe we’ve made all these strides and gained all this freedom, but all it takes is a conversation with another woman to show us we haven’t come very far at all. I’m married and it’s not something I lead with because I don’t make it my identity. Women are often shocked, especially the older ones when I talk about my life or how I travel solo or how I engage in hobbies. I can’t tell you the amount of women who have said” he lets you go by yourself?” To which I have to say no, because he’s not my father and he doesn’t “let” me do anything. Like what are we doing and what kind of lives are y’all living? I also didn’t change my last name because it didn’t feel important to me and I get chewed up about that too. Like who cares? Not me and not my husband🤷🏽♀️
